Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge was blessed with another new suprise! A baby black leopard.
About ten days ago the female spotted Indian leopard rescued from New York gave birth to a perfect black baby. Simply amazing! We have never nursed a baby leopard and everything is going well, very well actually. We do have one problem. The baby needs a name. This is where you come in. If you wish to name the baby sponsor him. We need someone to step forward and name this baby. I am tired of calling him "baby" or some other name based on his current disposition. Think of a really cool name. Mark or Becky are fine but won't fit this cool cat. We already have a couple cats named Thunder so that is out. Maybe "Clinger", based on his long toes and desire to hang. Just a thought. C'mon, you can do better than that I'm sure. We need your help. Sponsoring him is a $1800/year donation.
This little baby is very aggressive for an animal under 1 pound. I truly think he would eat me if he could! He has his sweet moments too.
Call our main number and tell them you heard about the baby from the Blog. You can also email me at scott@turpentinecreek.org You will be able to see the baby soon.
TCWR must continue its mission long after the main staffs life expectancy. To do this we need your help. Please click on the button below which allows you to donate on a recurring basis. All you do is fill out the form, click recurring, and each month or quarter your donation will come to the refuge. This site is extremely secure and watched by the best. This is one way to help us, help them. Thanks,
Scott
Tiger Cubs Playing Video
The tiger cubs, BB King and Mack, are growing fast. It takes $125/week just to feed the little guys. It certainly takes a lot more than just food. We need tons of paper towels and wet wipes, you gotta potty them you know! They also eat about 2 pounds of ground turkey each day. Please help in this area too. Below is a video of them playing in the kitchen and yard while waiting for the morning feeding.
Summer Visitation Is Slipping Away
Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge relies partly on income from visitation. Tourist from all over the globe visit each year and fall in love with our mission. It amazes me to look at our sign in sheets. There have been people from Spain, Mexico, Canada, Germany, India, France, and many, many more. Most of these visitors come to the Refuge during the 100 days of summer. After that period is over we do get busy on weekends as long as the weather stays nice. With only a couple weeks left until school starts I am getting a little concerned. Will people travel to Eureka Springs for an extended weekend get away? Will they come to the refuge if gas prices continue to soar? With national economics heading the way they are, will we experience another "urban flight". The tube says its coming. So, what can we do at the Refuge to get ready for a possible strangle hold? Thanks to Wal Mart and Tyson Foods for making the cats food supply available. Do you think the local power company will give up the juice for free...for the animals sake? How about the phone company? HaHaHa...
Turpentine Creek relies on supporters of all kinds. Some have never been here but found us online and fell in love. Others come weekly, monthly, or yearly while in the area to visit and say hello to their favorite cats. Some stay a week or two in our lodging or RV and camping sites. Some get married here and others come just to take photos. Whatever keeps you coming we are glad to have you. Please take time in the upcoming months to schedule a day or two with the animals. The Refuge needs both your online support and your timely onsite visitation. Thank you - please donate today by clicking below. Safe, simple, and fun.
