Lucci
Lucci, the lion was rescued along with 21 other cats during the “Quitman rescue” in the fall of 2000. He shares the first habitat on the loop with Wyoming, a lion and TJ a tiger. Due to poor care when he was growing up and/or inbreeding Lucci is partially blind and has deformities in his legs. He relies on his other bachelor roommates to take care of him.
On the day the three were first released into their habitat, TJ energetically ran out of the lockdown without hesitation, Wyoming followed sauntering around and checking out the entire area before going back to the lockdown for his friend. Lucci remained in the lockdown until Wyoming returned and led him out into the large grassy area. Lucci now loves his habitat area and truly enjoys being able to run. His leg deformities give him a rather goofy running style, but his joy is undeniable.
He is not a cat that has any affection for the 2-legged creatures at the refuge, but loves his bachelor buddy roommates. The 3 boys are often found laying together in a big pile relaxing in the habitat. Lucci is an inspirational cat that came from deplorable conditions, overcame physical limitations and with the help of his cage mates has grown into a healthy, happy lion with one of the cutest faces at the refuge.
