"Cat of the Week" - Hercules
Hercules was rescued along with 4 other tigers, Sharcon, Sampson, Kitten, and Tigger #3 on August 19, 1998. His previous owner bought him from a breeder in Texas at one year old. Since Hercules arrived at his new home in Edinburgh he had been housed in a very small cage that was approximately 4’ wide, 6’ long, and 4’ high with a plywood bottom. His owner’s health was failing, and thus all his Big Cats needed to find a home quickly. A facility in Texas contacted Turpentine Creek, stating that they would take some of the cats if TCWR could take the rest.
Hercules was placed in a cage outside TCWR founders home. His inability to move around in his former cage and poor diet led to the underdevelopment of his hips and back legs. Upon the arrival at the refuge he could not walk. Through many years of fantastic care he now walks fine and is excessively aggressive at feeding time.
Kitefest Report
Kitefest was a little less attended this year do to Mother Nature's input. Early Saturday morning it started sleeting. But that did not stop the determined kite flyer's. First there was one car drive up. Then another. Before long there were a dozen people and fifteen kites in the sky. As the day progressed the sleet turned to snow. Everyone held out as long as they could. The next day,Sunday, the weather turned nice again and we reached about 65 degrees! You can come to the refuge any day you like and fly kites in the front field. It is a perfect spot, bring a picnic lunch and make a memory out of it. See ya soon!
