Animal Of The Week - Goober
Goober had previously been rescued by a Baboon Refuge from a man and woman who had bought him in Del City, OK. Goober liked the woman, but did not like her husband. After the husband picked Goober up one day and was bit, the man threw him across the room and into the wall. A woman from the Baboon Orphanage convinced the people to allow her to attempt to give Goober a better home. She was not capable to properly house a monkey like Goober, and he kept escaping. During one of his escapes he bit the woman, prompting her to have his canine teeth removed. Not long after that, they asked Turpentine Creek to take him. Goober has been at the refuge since 3/19/1993. He draws a lot of attention because of his fantastic demeanor. He loves getting treats from our staff. He is a great member of the TCWR family.

What's Happening at the Creek?
It has been such a busy week! The week started out with Goober's release into his new enclosure. It was great watching him climb around his new bachelor pad and explore all his new furniture, hammocks, and ladders! We have had a few volunteers come this week and help us get some of our projects on our to-do-list done. Thanks!! Its also spring break (woohoo!) for many people and the weather has been fantastic this week (another woohoo!) so we have more visitors lately. I've definitely been enjoying talking to people again and it is nice to see the big tours and all the people that come to watch feeding time! Sometimes you forget how much you miss it in the winter when fewer people come to visit! Not only do I love sunny days, but many of the cats do too. I love watching the cats sleep on their backs with their legs in the air so the sun can hit right on their bellies. Too cute! This time of the year is the perfect time to visit so make a plan to come see the cats soon! Jessica Simms Staff Zoologist
