I'm sitting here with Brody the lion at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge here in Eureka Springs Arkansas. I just got to ask you Brody how you ended up at a wonderful place like this.
Brody: Well Steven when I was around 11 weeks old I was purchased by a family for only $175. They took me to their home in Missouri where I lived inside their house like I was some sort of dog. When I was around 18 months old I hit my growth spurt and all of a sudden I was too big to be living in the house. That's when the couple had decided to find me a new home, and ever since then I had been living here at the refuge.
Steven: What is your favorite food/least favorite?
Brody: I love meat. Chicken, beef, pork, I could eat it all day every day. Ribs, wings, porterhouse, yummy! Sometimes I enjoy eating fresh organ meat as well. As for my least favorite I would say any kind of fruit or vegetables. One time I ate a whole watermelon and let's just say that did not end so well.
Steven: What is the one thing you could not live without?
Brody: The one thing in this world that I wouldn't be able to live without is my red ball. I have had it ever since I could remember. There are some people that get attached to their baby blankets, or a raggedy old teddy bears, well my ball is my teddy bear, "Big Red" is his name. One of my favorite games is soccer.
Steven: If there is any place in the world that you could go to right now where would it be? What would be your dream vacation?
Brody: Africa! It is so beautiful out there and it rarely drops below 60. I could meet so many new friends at the local watering hole and place soccer as long as I want. It is the perfect place for a lion like me.
Steven: Africa does sound amazing, but long term where do you see your self from now?
Brody: In five years I hope to be living in a big habitat where there is lots of green grass that I can lay in and tall trees that I can sharpen my claws on. With claws like mine you'll go bankrupt getting a manicure and pedicure. I'm talking about a habitat that I could really run and stretch my legs get in shape.
Well I would like to thank you for your time and allowing me to interview you. Hopefully next time I come by to visit you will be in that big habitat you hope for.
